Hydration

By Ray Leonard, Public Relations

I recently attended a meeting with the Muskegon Health Department and we discussed the health of water.  I was given some information that I would like to pass along to you the reader.

  • 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated
  • In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger
  • Lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue
  • Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers

    Health Benefits of Water

According to the Mayo Clinic, water is your body's principal chemical component, making up, on average, 60 percent of your body weight. Every system in your body depends on water. For example, water flushes toxins out of vital organs, carries nutrients to your cells and provides a moist environment for ear, nose and throat tissues. Lack of water can lead to dehydration, a condition that occurs when you don't have enough water in your body to carry out normal functions. Even mild dehydration can drain your energy and make you tired.
